The story of Bobi
When Robert Peel set up London's Metropolitan Police, the new officers were called bobbies and peelers after him, and bobby stuck. In New York during the Second World War, teenage girls in rolled-down ankle socks packed the Paramount Theatre and screamed for the young Frank Sinatra; the papers called them bobby-soxers. Bobi, with one b, is one of the spellings families used for the girls' form.
