The story of Astraea
Ovid says Astraea was the last of the immortals to abandon the earth as the ages declined from gold to iron, and that she became Virgo. Her return was a standing image for the restoration of a golden age — Virgil's fourth eclogue and Dryden's Astraea Redux both use it. The name is in current American use.
Meaning
star maiden
From the Greek aster, 'star', with a feminine ending. Astraea was the daughter of Astraeus and Eos in some accounts, and the personification of justice. The word aster is ordinary Greek and gives English asterisk, asteroid and disaster. The reading is undisputed.
