The Thelma test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Arnulfo's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Thelma climbed just as high around 1906, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Thelma's path sketches the road Arnulfo is walking now.

The trade-off
- A settled meaning with two vivid animals in it.
- A documented Frankish ancestor of the Carolingians carried the name.
- Every letter is said, so Spanish speakers read it correctly at once.
- Seven letters and three syllables is a fair amount for early handwriting.
- It reads as distinctly of an older generation to Mexican speakers.
- Arnold is the English relative and looks quite different.
