The story of Arion
In Greek legend Arion was an immortal horse, the offspring of Poseidon and Demeter, swift enough to outrun anything; when the Seven marched against Thebes and were destroyed, Arion carried King Adrastus away, the only one of the leaders to escape. In 1827 Alexander Pushkin wrote a short poem called 'Arion', in which a singer is the lone survivor of a shipwreck that drowns all his companions, and readers have long taken it as his veiled reflection on the crushed Decembrist rising. Arion is given mostly to boys in the American record, with a real minority of girls.
