Our story of Aniyla
Ours, offered as ours. Ani was the capital of Armenia around the year 1000 and was called the city of a thousand and one churches; it sits abandoned on the Turkish side of the closed border with Armenia, and the ruins are among the most striking medieval sites anywhere. Armenians use the name for daughters. Aniyla in American records is almost certainly a construction, and the ruined city is worth naming for its own sake.

Not established
No source is established. Armenian Ani is a ruined medieval capital; Hebrew ani means I or poor depending on the vowels; Japanese has separate uses. The Ani- and -yla pieces of modern American naming are the likelier source.

The SSA counts spellings, not names. Aniyla went to 31 girls in 2025, but Anyla, Anylah and Aniylah and the rest below are the same name said out loud. Together the 6 spellings went to 334, which makes it the 644th most-given girls’ name of the year — 3,816 places above the chart.
About 1 girl in 4,812 born in 2025 was given one of these spellings — against 1 in 51,847 for Aniyla itself.
Spellings are grouped by a fixed rule that folds interchangeable English spellings of one sound (ck/k, ph/f, x/ks, a non-initial y for i) and keeps vowels apart, so Sean and Shawn stay separate names. It errs towards splitting: a family here is never larger than the truth. SSA national data, 2025. Method
