The story of Aniela
Angelos was a plain Greek word for anyone carrying a message, and the Septuagint used it for the beings that bring God's word, which is how the religious sense took over. Polish gives Aniela, with the household forms Aniela and Anielka, and it was very well used in Poland into the twentieth century. It appears in American records around 1918 with Polish emigration.
Meaning
messenger, angel
From Greek angelos, a messenger; the religious sense came from its use in translating a Hebrew word for a divine messenger, and the ordinary sense of a human courier is the older one.

Spellings are grouped by a fixed rule that folds interchangeable English spellings of one sound (ck/k, ph/f, x/ks, a non-initial y for i) and keeps vowels apart, so Sean and Shawn stay separate names. It errs towards splitting: a family here is never larger than the truth. SSA national data, 2025. Method
