The story of Albin
Several early saints carried the name, including Saint Albinus of Angers in the sixth century, whose cult spread through France and Germany. Poland took it up as Albin and it has been in ordinary use there since; Sweden and Denmark use it too, and it has become fashionable in Sweden again in the last twenty years. American records show it with Polish, Swedish and Slovenian migration in the late nineteenth century, peaking in 1891. The English form Alban, borne by the first British martyr, is a separate name from the same root.
Meaning
white
Latin albus means white, and it gives album — originally a white tablet for writing on — albino, albumen and the name Albinus, a Roman cognomen for someone pale. Alba, the white place, gave its name to Alba Longa and possibly to Albion. The derivation is settled and unusually plain for a Roman name, most of which are unrecoverable.
