Alahna
Feminine
Alahna is one of many spellings of a sound that reached English from Brittany and Ireland: Alan, a name common enough among the Bretons who came over with the Normans that it took root in England within a generation. The feminine forms are much later, and the h in this one is entirely American.

The story of Alahna
Breton nobles came to England in numbers after 1066 and brought Alan with them, and it became one of the ordinary medieval English names. Feminine forms appeared only in the twentieth century, mostly in North America: Alana, Alanna, Alannah and Alaina all arrived within a few decades of each other. Alahna belongs to the most recent layer, with a silent h added in the way American families have been adding them for thirty years, changing the look without touching the sound.

Not established
Alan has no settled etymology. A Breton or Celtic word meaning handsome is the reading most often printed; a word for a rock or a little rock is another; a link to a tribal name has been proposed. The Hawaiian alana, an offering or an awakening, is a genuine word but is not the source of the English name, whatever websites say.

The Ellanor test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Alahna's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Ellanor climbed just as high around 1913, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Ellanor's path sketches the road Alahna is walking now.
Alahna sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
