The story of Adryan
Hadria was a small Adriatic port and its name went to the whole sea and to the family that produced the emperor Hadrian — who built the wall across northern Britain and a great deal else. Six popes have taken the name. Spanish and Portuguese use Adrián and Adriano, and Adryan with a y is a modern respelling appearing in American and Brazilian records.
Meaning
from Hadria
From Latin Hadrianus, of Hadria, a town in northern Italy; the sea took its name from the same place. The town's own name may come from a word for dark, possibly Etruscan or Illyrian, and is not settled.

Spellings are grouped by a fixed rule that folds interchangeable English spellings of one sound (ck/k, ph/f, x/ks, a non-initial y for i) and keeps vowels apart, so Sean and Shawn stay separate names. It errs towards splitting: a family here is never larger than the truth. SSA national data, 2025. Method
