The story of Addysen
The Spectator ran for 555 daily numbers and reached an audience far beyond its print run through coffee houses, and its ambition was explicit: to bring philosophy out of closets and libraries to dwell in clubs and assemblies. Addison's prose was held up as the model of the middle style for the next century; Samuel Johnson told writers who wished to attain an English style to give their days and nights to it. The surname behind the name is much plainer, a patronymic from a pet form of Adam, and the American given name comes from the surname rather than from the essayist. Its modern use is overwhelmingly female, which makes a name meaning son of Adam a girls' name.
