Abrahan
Masculine · “father of a multitude”
Abrahan is the Spanish spelling of Abraham, and the name records a change made in the text itself. In Genesis 17 God renames Abram as Abraham and explains the addition: he is to be the father of a multitude of nations. Few names have their own alteration written into scripture. Its American peak is 1992.

The story of Abrahan
Abraham is the founding patriarch of Judaism, Christianity and Islam, and the renaming episode is central to how all three understand the covenant. Spanish naming uses both Abran and Abrahan, and the h in the longer form is silent in Spanish, which makes the two nearly identical in speech. The final n rather than m reflects Spanish phonology, which does not permit a word-final m. American records show Abrahan with Mexican and Central American families, peaking in the early 1990s.

father of a multitude
Genesis explains Avraham as 'father of a multitude of nations', connecting the added syllable to hamon, 'multitude'. Most scholars regard that as a theological explanation rather than a strict etymology — the linguistics do not quite work — and treat Avraham as a dialectal variant of Avram, 'exalted father', with no change in meaning. So the text supplies one reading and philology another, and both are worth stating.

ah-brah-AN
Three syllables in Spanish, stress at the end, with the h silent. English speakers say AY-bruh-ham, sounding the h and front-stressing it. The two are quite different to the ear despite the near-identical spelling.

The Kendel test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Abrahan's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Kendel climbed just as high around 1965, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Kendel's path sketches the road Abrahan is walking now.
Abrahan sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
