Tinesha is an American build with no documented parent. Its opening syllable is the name of a metal that is almost useless on its own and that reorganized the ancient world anyway, because of what it does when mixed with another one.

How old is the name Tinesha?

Tinesha first appears in US birth records in 1969 — 56 years ago. The typical Tinesha alive today was born around 1985, making them about 40 years old. About 700 people named Tinesha are estimated to be alive in the US today.

When was the name Tinesha most popular?

Tinesha peaked in 1983, reaching #2310 nationally. See the whole 1983 chart.

Where it comes from

Our story of Tinesha

Copper is soft. Add about a tenth part of tin and you get bronze, which is hard enough for tools and weapons, and the whole period is named after the alloy. The difficulty is that copper is fairly widespread and tin is not: workable deposits are rare and concentrated, in Cornwall, in Afghanistan, in a few other places. So the Bronze Age required long-distance trade as a structural condition, with tin moving thousands of miles along routes that had to be maintained, negotiated and defended. When those networks broke down at the end of the period, the collapse was general. A rare metal in a small number of valleys held up several civilizations at once.

No source has been documented. The front and the ending were both free elements in American naming of the period, and nothing explains this particular pairing.

Tinesha sits in the rare tail. Its best year on record was 1982, with 42 girls. Today it is given to few enough children that it does not enter the ranked charts at all.

Fashion outlook

Tinesha sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off

Practical strengths
  • Tina and Nesha are both available as short forms and both stand alone.
  • The stress falls where an English reader expects, so first attempts land correctly.
  • Three soft syllables carry well and are easy to hear.
What to consider
  • Two readings of the middle vowel are in circulation and the spelling settles neither.
  • Tanesha, Tenisha and Tynesha are all in the record and will be confused with it.
  • No origin is documented, so the meaning question has nothing to answer with.
