Our story of Teasia
To tease originally meant to pull apart, and the thing being pulled apart was wool. Raw fleece has to be separated into loose fibers before it can be spun, and the Old English verb for doing it is the ancestor of the modern word — which is why teasing someone, in the older sense, meant picking at them rather than joking with them, and why the joking sense is comparatively recent. The plant called a teasel is named for the same job: its dried seed heads are covered in stiff hooked bristles, and for centuries they were mounted in frames and dragged across woven cloth to raise the nap. Mills used them in enormous quantities and no mechanical substitute worked as well for a long time, because a metal hook that meets a snag tears the cloth and a teasel hook simply breaks off.

No source is documented. The front and the ending are both free American elements. The resemblance to the English verb and to the name of a continent are both accidents of spelling, and treating either as the origin would be reading something into the record that is not there.

Fashion outlook
Teasia sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off
- Both halves detach as short forms and sound nothing like each other.
- It is genuinely distinctive without being hard to say.
- The spelling is compact and fits any form.
- Teasha, Tiasia and Teisha are all recorded and will be written for it.
- The syllable count is unstable, so the name gets said two ways.
- There is no meaning to give, and glosses offered for names of this shape are invented.
