Teara
Feminine
Teara has five letters and three of them are vowels, which is a ratio English words almost never reach. The language likes consonants at both ends and clusters in the middle; a name built the other way sounds open and modern for exactly that reason, and looks nothing like anything in the dictionary.

Our story of Teara
The English word the name looks like is worth a detour, because there are two of them and they are not related. The tear that means to rip and the tear that means what comes from crying are spelled identically and have separate ancestors: the first from a Germanic verb about pulling apart, the second from a completely different root that also gives Latin lacrima and Greek dakry. They fell together in spelling by accident and English has never bothered to separate them, which is why the written word has two pronunciations and no way to signal which is meant. American naming, which builds for sound rather than for the page, produces the opposite problem: this name has one pronunciation and several possible spellings, and no more meaning than any other sequence of pleasant syllables.
Meaningnot established
Not established
No source can be established. The name resembles several older ones without descending from any of them, and no record preserves what a family intended. The resemblance that will occur to most English readers, to the word for what falls from an eye, is a coincidence of spelling and not a derivation.
Pronouncing Teara
tee-AR-uh
Three syllables with the stress in the middle. Some families say TEE-uh-ruh with the weight at the front, and the spelling settles nothing either way; the first person to say it aloud fixes it.

Fashion outlook
Teara sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off
- Every sound is ordinary English, so the name is never mispronounced twice.
- It is soft and open and goes easily with almost any surname.
- Two short forms that sound nothing alike, one European and one modern American.
- Two live stress patterns and no way for the spelling to choose between them.
- It will be written Tiara and Tiara is a different word with a strong image attached.
- There is no meaning to give a child who asks, and the honest answer takes explaining.
