Our story of Tanea
Greek geographers divided the world into three continents and had to put the borders somewhere. Africa was separated from Asia at the Nile or the Red Sea, depending on the writer, and Europe was separated from Asia at the Tanais, the river now called the Don, which runs into the Sea of Azov. The choice was arbitrary and everybody knew it; Herodotus says outright that he cannot see why one landmass should have three names or who decided on the boundaries. The border has since been moved east to the Urals, which is equally arbitrary, and the continents remain a piece of Greek administrative tidiness that the world never got round to revising.

Fashion outlook
Tanea sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off
- Three open syllables with nothing difficult in them carry well across a room.
- The stress falls where an English reader expects, so first attempts land correctly.
- It is soft and clear over a phone line.
- Two readings of the middle vowel are in circulation and the spelling settles neither.
- Tania, Tanya and Taniya are all in the record and will be confused with it.
- No origin is documented, so the meaning question has nothing to answer with.
