Our story of Tameria
Merino wool is finer than any other sheep's and Spain guarded the breed so jealously that exporting a live merino was punishable by death until the late eighteenth century. Where the word comes from is genuinely open. One account makes it Spanish, from merino, a crown official who inspected sheep walks and adjudicated the disputes that arose when enormous migrating flocks crossed farmland — a real and powerful office, with its own courts. The other takes it from the Marinids, a Berber dynasty in Morocco, on the reasoning that the breed's ancestors came across the strait with them. Both have serious support, neither has won, and the wool trade that made Castile rich is named after one or the other without anybody being able to say which.

Fashion outlook
Tameria sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off
- Four syllables give it a formal length and three quite different short forms.
- The stress falls where an English reader expects it to.
- The spelling is phonetic and can be written from hearing.
- Tameria, Tamaria and Tomeria are all recorded and will be written for it.
- The syllable count is unstable, so the name gets said two ways.
- No meaning can honestly be given for either element.
