Tamarra
Feminine · “Date palm”
The doubled r in Tamarra is the only tool English has for guaranteeing a short a in the middle of this name. Without it the vowel could go either way, since a single consonant between vowels normally leaves the first one long; with it the reading is fixed, which is more than most doubled letters achieve.

The story of Tamarra
The fruit is in an English word that almost nobody connects to it. Arabic tamr hindi means Indian date, and it is the name of a quite different tree whose pods are sour and brown and were traded west through the Arab world; English took the phrase whole and turned it into tamarind. So the word for the fruit in the supermarket contains the same root as this name, describing a plant that is not a date at all but was named by analogy with one by traders who met it far from home. The date itself was central enough in the Near East to feed people, roof houses and stand as a figure for a flourishing life, which is why a woman could be named for it without anybody thinking it odd.
Meaning
Date palm
Hebrew tamar is the date palm, tree and fruit alike. Hebrew does not double consonants in the way English does and the original has nothing corresponding to the two r's here; the doubling belongs entirely to English spelling and is doing an English job.

Pronouncing Tamarra
tuh-MAR-uh
Three syllables with the stress in the middle. The doubled r fixes the middle vowel as short, which the single-r spelling leaves open; that is a genuine difference and one of the few respellings that does real work.

Fashion outlook
Tamarra sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.
