Persian supplied the vocabulary of courts across half of Asia, and taj is one of its most visible exports — the building at Agra is named with it, and so are a great many people. Separately, American naming has used Ta- as a free front element since the middle of the twentieth century, attaching it to anything. Taja appears in American records from 1968 and peaked in 1988, which fits the American pattern better than the Persian one, though both populations are almost certainly present.

It could equally be the American Ta- prefix joined to a sound, which is how a great many names of the same decades were made. There is also a Slovene and Slavic Taja, a short form of Tatjana, and a Japanese surname of the same spelling.
