The story of Rigoberto
The Visigoths ruled Spain for three centuries and left a large Germanic layer in Spanish naming — Rodrigo, Alfonso, Fernando, Rigoberto. Saint Rigobert was an eighth-century archbishop of Reims. Rigoberta Menchú, the Guatemalan Nobel laureate, carries the feminine. The name appears in American records in current use.
Meaning
bright in wealth, splendid
From the Germanic ric, 'ruler' or 'power', and berht, 'bright' or 'famous'. The same berht element closes Robert, Albert and Herbert; ric opens Richard. Spanish and Italian made Rigoberto from the Latinized Rigobertus. The elements are ordinary and the reading undisputed.

The Layne test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Rigoberto's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Layne climbed just as high around 1959, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Layne's path sketches the road Rigoberto is walking now.
Rigoberto sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
