Reita
Feminine
Reita cannot be assigned to a parent. It may be a respelling of Rita, which is a clipping of a much longer Italian and Spanish name; it may belong to Rheta, a separate American name of the same era; and it may be neither. Two letters at the front do all the work of the ambiguity, and English has no rule that would settle them.
How old is the name Reita?

Our story of Reita
German solved the problem this name has, and English never did. In German, ie always writes a long ee and ei always writes the sound in eye: Liebe and Stein, and no exceptions worth the name. A German reader meeting an unfamiliar word knows what to do with either pair on sight. English took both combinations from different sources at different times, gave them overlapping values, and produced receive, believe, height, freight, friend and their assorted friends, along with a rhyme about i before e that has more exceptions than instances. For a name it is the worst possible situation: the two letters that open this one could be either sound, and the family has to say which every single time.
Meaningnot established
Not established
No parent can be established, so no meaning can be given. If the source is the Italian clipping, the full name is about a pearl; if it is the other candidate, no agreed etymology exists at all. Reference works generally assign this spelling to the first and print the pearl reading, which is a guess presented as a fact.
How the name formed
- An Italian clipping of a much longer name
- A separate American name of similar shape

Pronouncing Reita
REE-tuh
Two syllables, stress on the first. Some families say RAY-tuh instead, and a few RYE-tuh, all from the same four letters; the spelling supports every one of them and recommends none.

Fashion outlook
Reita sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off
- It is short, clean and easy to say once the vowel is settled.
- Ita and Rei are two short forms with real lives elsewhere.
- It is genuinely uncommon while looking entirely ordinary.
- Three pronunciations are available and the spelling settles none of them.
- Rita is commoner and this will be converted into it constantly.
- No source can be given, because the parent cannot be established.
