The story of Reagen
Reagan came to America with Irish emigrants as a surname, and Ronald Reagan's great-grandfather left Ballyporeen in County Tipperary in the nineteenth century. When the president visited the village in 1984 he stopped at a pub that renamed itself in his honor; twenty years later its whole interior was dismantled, shipped across the Atlantic and rebuilt inside the Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley. In 1998 Congress renamed Washington National Airport after him. Reagen, with an e in the second syllable, is one of the spellings American families have used as the surname became a first name, most often for daughters.
