Our story of Rayla
Our story of Rayla is a story of a decade. The Ray- front had been circulating since Raelynn and Raelyn in the 1990s; the -la back is one of the oldest workhorses in American naming. Rayla appears in the registers in the 2010s from that combination, and then an animated series released in 2018 gave the name to a central character, which is when the numbers move. Two forces, both recent, both documented — which is the whole history, and there is no older one to claim.
Meaningnot established
Not established
No established etymology. The Ray- front circulates from Rachel, Raelynn and the English word; the -la ending is among the most productive in modern American naming. Occasional attributions to Hebrew or Spanish are not supported. It is best read as a modern coinage.

About 1 girl in 10,715 born in 2025 was given one of these spellings — against 1 in 11,906 for Rayla itself.
Spellings are grouped by a fixed rule that folds interchangeable English spellings of one sound (ck/k, ph/f, x/ks, a non-initial y for i) and keeps vowels apart, so Sean and Shawn stay separate names. It errs towards splitting: a family here is never larger than the truth. SSA national data, 2025. Method
