Our story of Rashanda
Veranda came into English from India in the eighteenth century, and the puzzle is which way the borrowing ran. Portuguese has varanda, meaning a balcony or railing, and the Portuguese were on the Indian coast a long time before the British. Hindi, Bengali and several other Indian languages have forms of the word too. The obvious account is that Portuguese lent it to India and English picked it up there. But the Indian forms may be native and older, in which case Portuguese borrowed it from India and English got it back at second hand. Lexicographers have gone round this for two centuries and the honest dictionaries say the direction is uncertain. It is a useful reminder about names as well: a word can be genuinely present in two places and the resemblance still not tell you who had it first.

No source is documented. The prefix is a free American element and the base belongs to a family built from the same stock. Glosses attaching this family to Arabic or an African language are added afterwards and produce no word in either.
Pronouncing Rashanda
ruh-SHAN-duh
Three syllables with the stress in the middle. The prefix is light enough to vanish in fast speech, which is why the name is often heard as Shanda with something in front of it.

Fashion outlook
Rashanda sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off
- Middle stress on three syllables is the easiest rhythm English offers.
- Shanda detaches cleanly and is a complete name.
- The spelling is phonetic and can be written from hearing.
- Rashonda, Roshanda and Lashanda are all recorded and will be written for it.
- The name is firmly dated to the decades it was made in.
- Neither element carries a meaning, so the origin question has a short answer.
