The story of Pratik
In Hindu philosophy a pratika is a symbol that stands for something beyond sight, a visible sign such as the sacred syllable Om, used to fix the mind in meditation on what cannot be seen. The same word is ordinary in modern Indian languages, used for a flag, a logo or a sign on a map, and families give it to sons for both its plain and its deeper sense. Indian families brought it to the United States, where it appears as Pratik and Prateek.
