Porscha
Feminine
Porscha respells Portia to look like a car, and the car is named after an engineer with a completely different surname history. The name itself is Roman, belonged to a woman who is one of the few people in Roman history recorded doing something genuinely startling to prove a point, and reached English through a play about a courtroom.

The story of Porscha
Porcia was the daughter of Cato and the wife of Brutus, and the story about her is preserved by two independent sources. Suspecting her husband was involved in something he would not tell her, she cut herself deeply in the thigh, said nothing about it for a day while she watched for fever, and then told him that she had done it to test whether she could hold pain in silence, and that if she could hold pain she could hold a secret. He told her about the conspiracy. Whether it happened is unknowable; that it was told about her in antiquity, admiringly, by writers who were not much given to admiring women, is a fact about how she was remembered.
Meaningnot established
Not established
The Roman family name it comes from has no settled meaning; the usual connection is to a Latin word about pigs, which is a plausible derivation for a farming family's name and is not demonstrated. The respelling contributes nothing. Any reading offered confidently is choosing among guesses about a name that was already old when the Republic was young.
How the name formed
- A Roman family name of unsettled origin
- Carried by the wife of a conspirator against Caesar

Two syllables, stress on the first. The car has three in German and two in American English, which is part of why the resemblance is so complete here and much less so in Germany.

Fashion outlook
Porscha sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off
- The sound is completely familiar and never needs explaining.
- It carries a genuinely remarkable Roman bearer and a well-known dramatic one.
- Pia and Shay are two very different short forms and both stand alone.
- The spelling makes the car unavoidable, and that is the whole reason for it.
- Portia is the standard spelling and this one will be converted into it.
- There is no established meaning, and the usual one is about pigs.
