The story of Natividad
The date it commemorates was not fixed for the first three centuries of Christianity, and the earliest writers who mention the question are frank that nobody knew. Various dates were proposed — in January, in April, in May — and the December one appears in Rome in the fourth century, by which point the arguments for it were as much about the calendar as about any evidence. The eastern churches settled on a different day and several still keep it. A festival that now feels immovable was, for longer than the United States has existed, an open question.
Meaning
the nativity, a birth
The ordinary Spanish noun, from Latin. It belongs to the family of devotional names built on feasts and mysteries rather than on saints, which is why it does not track sex the way a person's name would.

Fashion outlook
Natividad sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off
- The meaning is specific and immediately understood by any Spanish speaker.
- It has an established short form rather than an improvised one.
- It carries a living devotional tradition rather than a vague inheritance.
- Four syllables with the stress at the back is hard for English speakers to place.
- It is long and will be shortened by everyone outside the family.
- The record holds both sexes, which surprises people who read it as a woman's name.
Nobody names a baby alone.
