The story of Marrion

Marion Mahony Griffin, one of the first women licensed as an architect in the United States, produced the luminous presentation drawings with which her husband, Walter Burley Griffin, won the international competition to design Canberra in 1912. Marion Tinsley, a mathematics professor from Ohio, was world checkers champion for most of four decades and lost only a handful of games in all that time; in the 1990s he played the computer program Chinook and was still ahead when illness forced him to stop. Marrion was used for boys and girls from the first American records.

Marrion sits in the rare tail. Its best year on record was 1921, with 17 boys. Today it is given to few enough children that it does not enter the ranked charts at all.
