The story of Marcie
Marcia was a Roman family name and the name of an early martyr, and English took it up in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. American speech softened the c and produced Marcie, Marcy and Marci, all registered outright in mid-century. Marcie peaked in American records around 1968, at the height of the whole Marc- family.
Meaning
of Mars
From the Roman family name Marcius, derived from Mars. The god was originally agricultural as well as martial — the month named for him opens the farming and campaigning year together. The derivation is undisputed; what Mars's own name meant is not recovered.

Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Marcie's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Wilda climbed just as high around 1926, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Wilda's path sketches the road Marcie is walking now.
