The story of Lyndsy
In 1912 the poet Vachel Lindsay set out on foot from Illinois to New Mexico carrying a pamphlet called Rhymes to Be Traded for Bread, and he did exactly that, reciting and handing out poems at farmhouse doors in exchange for meals and a place to sleep. The Lindsay surname came from Scotland, where the family took it from a place in Lincolnshire. Lindsay became one of the favorite girls' names of its generation, and Lyndsy is one of its leanest spellings.
