Loria
Feminine · “glory”
Loria is Gloria with its first letter removed, which is a rare direction for a name to travel. English respellings almost always add letters; taking one off, and taking off a consonant at the very front, is unusual enough to be worth noticing. The word underneath spent fifteen centuries inside a piece of liturgy before anybody thought of it as a name.

Where it comes from
From The Latin word for glory, fixed in the liturgy to Loria
The story of Loria
The word lived in church. It opens one of the fixed parts of the mass, sung or said at almost every service for something like fifteen hundred years, and it opens the short doxology that closes psalms and prayers; anybody attending church in Latin heard the word constantly and never as a name. Its conversion into a personal name happened late and in English, at the end of the nineteenth century, and once it started it moved quickly. A word that everybody had known all their lives in one specific setting became available for children within about a generation, which is the usual pattern for word-names taken out of liturgy: long familiarity, then a sudden switch of category.
Meaning
glory
If the parent is Gloria, the meaning is the Latin word for glory and the reading is settled. If the parent is instead Lorraine or a clipping of a longer Laura form, the answer differs. The missing consonant does not resolve it. Where the name is a clipping of Gloria, it carries the meaning at one remove and rather awkwardly, since the word without its first sound is not the word.
