Our story of Littie
Lettice was the English form of Latin Laetitia, 'joy', and its most famous bearer was Lettice Knollys, cousin of Elizabeth I, who secretly married Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester, the queen's favorite, in 1578; when Elizabeth found out she banished Lettice from court for the rest of her reign. Lettie was the everyday form of names like hers, and Littie may be Lettie as a family said it, or simply a pet name for a small girl. Either way it is a name made of affection.
