When John Allen and Elisha Rumsey founded a town in Michigan, they named it for their wives, Ann and Mary Ann, and for the groves of oak there: Ann Arbor. Lise Meitner, whose name is the German short form of Elisabeth as Lisa is the Italian, worked out with her nephew how the uranium atom splits; her colleague Otto Hahn received the Nobel Prize alone, and element 109 was later named meitnerium for her. Lisaann writes Lisa and Ann as one word.
