The story of Letticia
Laetitia was not only a word in Rome but a personification: Joy appears on the reverse of imperial coins as a woman holding a wreath, one of a company of virtues that included Hope and Concord. As a Christian name it passed into medieval England worn down to Lettice, a familiar name among the gentry. The Latin form returned with the Renaissance taste for classical names, and Spanish carried Leticia across the Americas. Letticia holds both at once, the medieval double t with the full Latin ending.
