Where it comes from

The story of Letisha

One woman carrying the fuller name was among the most widely read poets of her decade and died at thirty-six in circumstances nobody has explained. She published under three initials, produced enormous quantities of verse for the annuals that dominated popular literature, supported her family on it, and was pursued by rumors about her private life for years. She married a colonial governor, sailed to West Africa, and was found dead in her room within weeks with a bottle of prussic acid in her hand. Accident, suicide and murder have all been argued, and no inquest of any weight was held.

Fashion outlook

Letisha sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off

Practical strengths
  • The spelling is unambiguous where every etymological version is not.
  • The meaning is unusually pleasant and genuinely inherited.
  • Tish sits inside it as a short form that needs no explaining.
What to consider
  • Letitia and Leticia are both standard and this gets corrected constantly.
  • The phonetic spelling loses the Latin the name is often chosen for.
  • It is closely tied to the decades of its use.
