Lenita
Feminine
There is a Latin word that fits this name exactly and probably has nothing to do with it. Lenis means gentle or soft, and it gives English lenient and lenity and the linguistic term lenition; Lenita is far likelier to be Lena with a Spanish ending on it.

Our story of Lenita
The Latin word has had a good career in English without anybody noticing. Lenient means gentle in judgment; lenity is the noun for it; and linguists use lenition for the process by which a consonant softens between vowels, which is one of the most common sound changes there is and is why Latin vita became Spanish vida. All three are from lenis. The name resembles all of that and probably descends from none of it, because the far likelier account is the ordinary one: a short name plus the Spanish ending that turns anything into an affectionate version of itself. Both possibilities should be on the page, and the modest one should be labeled as the likelier, which is the opposite of how name books usually handle a choice like this.
Meaningnot established
Not established
Two possible accounts and no evidence for either. As a Spanish diminutive of Lena, the name means a small or dear Lena and Lena's own source is a shortening of Helena or Magdalena. As a form of the Latin word for gentle, it would mean something quite different. American records preserve neither.
Pronouncing Lenita
luh-NEE-tuh
Three syllables with the stress in the middle. Spanish gives the outer vowels their full value and English reduces them, which is the only difference between the two countries' versions.

Fashion outlook
Lenita sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.
