Our story of Lelar
Lelar sounds like Lela with a soft r at the end, and Lela has good company. The Roman Laelii gave Cicero his voice for friendship: his dialogue On Friendship is spoken by Gaius Laelius, remembering his friend Scipio. Much later Lela Rogers ran the career of her daughter, Ginger, from vaudeville to Hollywood, and in 1947 went to Washington to testify before Congress about the film industry. Lelar keeps only the sound of all this, but it is a warm sound: a name that seems to lean in and listen.

Lelar sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.
