Lashondra
Feminine
Lashondra is a longer, rarer relative of Lashonda, and the difference between them is a single letter that nobody can account for. Where the r came from is genuinely unknown — Sondra is the obvious suspect, and there is no evidence for it. What the name does have, unusually for a name this rare, is a documented history of how strangers respond to it.

The story of Lashondra
In the early 2000s two economists, Marianne Bertrand and Sendhil Mullainathan, answered around five thousand help-wanted advertisements in Boston and Chicago with fictitious resumes. The documents were identical in every respect that should matter — the same qualifications, the same experience, shuffled between applicants — and differed only in the name at the top. The resumes carrying names common among white Americans were called back fifty per cent more often than those carrying names common among Black Americans, and the gap did not close when the credentials were improved. The finding is one of the most replicated in labor economics. It is worth stating plainly what it is a fact about: employers, not names.
Meaningnot established
Not established
The name is built rather than inherited, from a productive front element and an ending that runs through a whole family of American names. That much is visible on the page. The r before the final vowel is the puzzle: Lashonda is far commoner and has no r, and no source explains where the extra consonant entered. It may have been borrowed from Sondra or Alexandra, it may be nothing more than an easier thing for a mouth to say, and the record keeps no note of it. A name can be entirely explicable in its parts and still have one letter that nobody can source.

Three syllables with the weight in the middle, and a first syllable so light it is barely a vowel at all. The name is spelled exactly as it is said, which is the point of how it was made.

Fashion outlook
Lashondra sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off
- It is read correctly at sight by anyone who tries, because the spelling and the sound agree entirely.
- Shondra sits inside it as a shorter, self-contained name for anyone who wants one.
- The rhythm is genuinely pleasant — three beats with the stress in the middle, which English names rarely do.
- The hiring research is real and it is about this family of names. It is a fact about how employers behave, but it is a fact a parent is entitled to know before choosing.
- Lashonda is much commoner, so the r will be dropped from her name on documents throughout her life.
- There is no meaning to give her, and the honest answer is that the name was made for its sound.
