Lareina
Feminine · “Spanish "the queen”
Lareina is a Spanish phrase that stopped being a phrase. La reina means the queen — article plus noun, two words — and Lareina is what happens when the space closes and the whole thing becomes a name. English does the same thing occasionally, in Ladonna and Lamonica, but Spanish supplies the clearest example because the article is genuinely there.

The story of Lareina
Reina is an ordinary Spanish given name in its own right and has been for centuries, alongside the parallel devotional Reina de los Ángeles. Fusing the article onto it is an American move rather than a Spanish one — Spanish registries would record Reina. What makes Lareina interesting is that it sits at the exact junction of two unrelated habits: a Spanish noun with its article, and the African American La- prefix that was at its most productive in exactly the years Lareina peaked. Both readings are honest and the spelling does not choose.
Meaning
Spanish "the queen"
Reina is Spanish for queen, from Latin regina, from rex, king. La is the feminine definite article. The compound is transparent to any Spanish speaker. What is not settled is whether every American Lareina is intended as the phrase — the La- prefix is also independently productive in American naming, in Latoya, Lakeisha and Latasha, and some Lareinas belong to that pattern instead.

The Darlin test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Lareina's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Darlin climbed just as high around 1954, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Darlin's path sketches the road Lareina is walking now.
Lareina sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
