Our story of Laketa
Laketa opens on the La- that so many American names of its time shared and closes on -keta, a sound with a long journey behind it. Keta is a word from the Tungusic peoples of eastern Siberia for the chum salmon, the fish that runs up the rivers of the North Pacific each autumn; Russian took it, and naturalists made it the fish's scientific name, Oncorhynchus keta. Laketa was not built from the salmon, but it shares its brisk ending — a sound that travels well.

Fashion outlook
Laketa sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off
- Easy to say once heard.

- Sits comfortably among the American names of its era.
- Lakita, Laquita and Lakeeta are likely guesses, so it will need spelling out.
- It is closely tied to its era.
- It has no documented meaning of its own.
