Where it comes from

The story of Joesphine

Josephine Cochrane, a wealthy woman in Shelbyville, Illinois, was tired of servants chipping her heirloom china, so she designed a machine of wire racks and water jets; she patented it in 1886, and the company she founded eventually became part of KitchenAid. In Britain Josephine Butler led the long campaign against the Contagious Diseases Acts, which allowed police to detain women suspected of prostitution for forced examination, until Parliament repealed them in 1886. Joesphine appears in the American record in the early twentieth century, most likely Josephine as it was written on a particular day.
