The story of Jevon
Ieuan is one of several Welsh forms of John, and in the Welsh Marches it hardened into the fixed surnames Jevon, Jevons and Evans as English clerks wrote down what they heard. That surname crossed to America early and quietly. Quite separately, the Je-, Ja- and De- prefixed names of the later twentieth century produced Javon, Devon, Trevon and Jevon as a set, and it is that set the name mostly belongs to now. The spelling is the same; the histories are not.

God is gracious, on the Welsh road
The Welsh surname Jevon derives from Ieuan, a Welsh form of John, from Hebrew Yochanan, God is gracious. The American given name behaves instead like a member of the Devon and Javon rhyme family, and for most families that is where it comes from. Both accounts are true of the spelling; only one is true of any given child.

The Heriberto test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Jevon's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Heriberto climbed just as high around 1980, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Heriberto's path sketches the road Jevon is walking now.
Jevon sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- Short, phonetic and easy to say at first sight.
- On one reading it connects to Evan and John, a very long documented line.
- It is uncommon while sounding entirely familiar.
- Two stress patterns are in use and the spelling does not choose between them.
- Javon, Devon and Jevon are close enough to be confused in speech and in writing.
- The Welsh connection is real but not obvious, so the name will usually be read as a modern coinage.
