The story of Jerson
Two Hebrew names sit behind it, Gershom the son of Moses and Gershon the son of Levi, and Greek and Latin bibles blurred them together. Spanish took the name as Gerson, and Latin American families, following Spanish spelling habits where a G before e is said like an h, moved to the J that gives the sound they actually use. Jerson is now a name of its own across Central America and the northern Andes, more common there than the form it came from.
Meaning
a stranger there; a sojourner
Hebrew Gershom, explained in Exodus itself: Moses names his son so, for I have been a stranger in a foreign land. The related Gershon, one of Levi's sons, is usually treated as the same name.

The Mozell test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Jerson's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Mozell climbed just as high around 1944, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Mozell's path sketches the road Jerson is walking now.
Jerson sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- Short, regular and easy to spell in both Spanish and English.
- It carries a documented biblical name and a meaning that can be stated in three words.
- It is widely used across Latin America, so it arrives with a community rather than alone.
- The J is said two different ways depending on who is reading, which means two versions of the name in one life.
- English speakers will write Jayson or Jerome after hearing it once.
- Its meaning, the stranger and the sojourner, is a beautiful one but does carry the idea of being away from home.
