Where it comes from

The story of Jennipher

In Greek words English writes ph for the letter phi, as in philosophy, but scribes sometimes put it into words that had no Greek in them: nephew came from French neveu and was said with a v in Britain for centuries after the ph arrived, and sulphur, a Latin word, took a ph that American spelling later removed. Jennipher does the same to a Cornish name. Jennifer was the commonest girl's name of its generation in the United States, and a family that wanted its daughter's name to stand apart had few options besides spelling; Jennipher is one of the rarest they found.
