Where it comes from

The story of Jazzmyne

The flower's name traveled from Persian into Arabic and on into French and English, and in the twentieth century it became an American given name with a crowd of spellings: Jasmine, Jasmin, Jazmin, Jazzmyn and this one, which adds a final e. That e turns the ending into myne, the way English printers commonly wrote the word mine in the sixteenth century. The resemblance is only visual; the name is said just as Jasmine is.

Meaning

jasmine, the flower (from Persian)

Fashion outlook

Jazzmyne sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off

Practical strengths
  • Sounds exactly like Jasmine, a name everyone can say.
  • Jazz is a ready short form.
  • The meaning, the jasmine flower, is clear and documented.
What to consider
  • It will be written Jasmine by default and corrected for life; the name has so many spellings that nearly every bearer spells hers out.
  • Readers meeting it for the first time may pause at the -myne ending and try 'mine'; one correction settles it.
