Javar
Masculine
Javar is built from a prefix and an ending that were both freely available when it was made, and neither half means anything. The syllable at the front opens an English word with one of the odder stories in sport: an event whose equipment had to be sabotaged on purpose.

Our story of Javar
In the middle of the nineteen-eighties an East German thrower sent a javelin more than a hundred meters, which was so far beyond anything previously managed that officials looked at their stadiums and realized the sport was about to run out of room: a javelin landing that far down the field was heading into the far straight, where other events were happening. The implement had been getting more aerodynamic for years, gliding flat instead of dropping, which also made it hard to tell whether it had landed point-first. So the governing body changed the specification. Moving the center of gravity forward by four centimetres makes the javelin dip earlier, shortening throws by about ten percent and making the landing unambiguous. Every record before that date was struck off and the event started again from zero — one of very few times a sport has deliberately made its athletes worse.

No source is documented. The front is a prefix element used across a very large family of American names; the ending is a free suffix from the same stock. Arabic and Persian words that resemble the whole have been offered as origins and there is no evidence behind any of them.

Fashion outlook
Javar sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off
- Back stress gives a short name a definite landing.
- Jay is available at once and works everywhere.
- Five letters and no silent ones make it quick to write and simple to spell aloud.
- Javaris, Javari and Jevar are all recorded and will be written for it.
- The unstressed first vowel means the spelling has to be given every time.
- No meaning can honestly be claimed for it.
