Several sources have been proposed for this name and not one of them is documented. It has been called a blend of two other names, a variant of an Arabic word, and an independent coinage; all three are assertions, none has evidence behind it, and the honest answer is that nobody knows who made it or from what.

The story of Jalen
What is unusual is not that it was coined but that it came back. Almost every invented name of its generation follows the same curve — a fast climb, a short plateau, and then a decline that never reverses, because a coinage carries the decade it was made in and cannot shed it. This one fell quiet and then returned, which is behavior normally reserved for names old enough to have been forgotten and rediscovered. A name has to be either very old or very lucky to get a second chance, and this one had no age to draw on.

No derivation can be established. The name appears in American records without a parent in any older naming tradition, and every meaning offered for it elsewhere is a guess dressed as an etymology.

Fashion outlook
Jalen sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off
- It is short, current and instantly easy to say.
- It offers short forms from either end.
- It reads as modern without reading as strange.
- No meaning can be given, whatever other pages assert.
- The stress is unsettled and strangers will guess.
- The record holds girls as well, and the girl is much the smaller side.
