Jadin

Jadin is given to both — 1,532 boys and 643 girls since 1880. See Jadin as a girl nameSee other names given to both
Jadin belongs to the largest rhyme family American naming has produced, and the family is entirely modern with one small exception. A name spelled Jadon does appear in the Bible, once, in a list of men repairing a wall, and it has nothing to do with the modern cluster. Everything else in the family was made in the nineteen nineties and after.
How old is the name Jadin?

Where it comes from
From A single biblical mention with no connection to the modern name to Jadin
Our story of Jadin
The verse is worth quoting for what it does not contain. In a chapter listing the people who rebuilt the wall of Jerusalem section by section, a man is named alongside his town and his stretch of wall, and he is never mentioned again anywhere. That is the whole biblical presence of the name. The modern family arrived by a completely different route: a rhyme pattern became fashionable at the end of the twentieth century, families built names to fit it, and within about ten years the pattern was producing more names than any comparable one in the record. Some of those names were borrowed, some were invented, and at least one was a celebrity child whose birth put the shape in front of a very large audience. Where a particular family got theirs is usually unrecoverable, and that is normal for names produced by a pattern rather than by descent.
Meaningnot established
Not established
The modern name has no established meaning. The biblical Jadon is a separate matter: it appears once, without explanation, and the readings offered for it are guesses at a Hebrew root. Treating that verse as the source of the modern cluster is a common move in name books and is not supported by anything: the modern names arrived from a rhyme pattern, not from scripture.

Pronouncing Jadin
JAY-din
Two syllables, stress on the first, with the second reduced almost to nothing. That reduction is why the family has so many spellings: the vowel in the second syllable is barely pronounced, so any letter can stand there.

Fashion outlook
Jadin sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off
- The sound is completely familiar and needs no explaining at all.
- Jade and Jay are two very different short forms and both stand alone.
- It works on the register for either child, which the record confirms.
- A dozen spellings of this sound are in circulation and yours is among the rarer ones.
- The biblical connection people reach for does not hold, and it is better to say so.
- It is very tightly dated to a stretch of years around the turn of the century.
