Jade is named after a kidney. Spanish colonists in the Americas found a green stone that indigenous healers used against pains in the side, and called it piedra de la ijada, the stone of the flank; French shortened that to jade, and the mineral's other name, nephrite, comes from the Greek for kidney by exactly the same route. Jadeyn joins that stone to the ending that dominated American naming after the millennium.

The story of Jadeyn
Jade became an English women's name in the twentieth century, part of the same movement that gave Ruby, Pearl and Amber their moment. Then the Aiden rhyme arrived and swept everything: by the 2000s any base could take the -aden or -ayden ending, and Jade did, producing Jayden, Jaden, Jadyn and Jadeyn. This spelling is one of the later arrangements. It reads as a girls' name in the American record, which is unusual for that ending — most of the rhyme went to boys, and this one did not.
Meaning
the stone thought to cure the flank
Jade comes from the Spanish piedra de la ijada — ijada is the flank or the loin — because the stone was believed to relieve renal colic. The word arrived in English through French, which had already lost the first part. The -eyn ending on this name carries no meaning; it belongs to the Aiden and Jayden rhyme scheme.

The Leondra test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Jadeyn's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Leondra climbed just as high around 1967, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Leondra's path sketches the road Jadeyn is walking now.
Jadeyn sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- Jade is available as a short form and is a complete name with a real story behind it.
- The stone's etymology is genuinely surprising and takes one sentence to tell.
- It is entirely readable on sight by any English speaker.
- Jaden, Jayden and Jadyn are all commoner, and the spelling will be corrected constantly.
- The rhyme it belongs to dates a child's birth to within a few years.
- Nearly every child given this spelling is a girl, though the same ending on other names goes overwhelmingly to boys, so assumptions run in both directions.
