The story of Jacquiline
The most consequential political club in the French Revolution is named after a building. The society took over a disused Dominican convent in Paris, and the Dominicans in France were known as Jacobins because their first house in the city was in the rue Saint-Jacques. So a religious order took its nickname from a street, a political club took its name from the order's building, and the word went on to mean a particular kind of revolutionary politics across Europe for two centuries — none of it referring to anyone called Jacques. The same name had attached itself two centuries earlier to a great peasant rising, on the strength of a nickname the nobility used for peasants generally. It is a name that keeps being applied to crowds by people describing them from outside.

from Jacob, whose own meaning is argued
The chain is documented: a French feminine of Jacques, which is the French form of Jacobus, which is the Latin of the Hebrew Yaakov. What that Hebrew name meant is the unsettled part — the biblical text offers a pun about a heel, which is a story rather than an etymology, and the honest position is that nobody knows.

Fashion outlook
Jacquiline sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off
- Jackie comes off it at once and needs no explanation anywhere.
- The descent is documented all the way back, which few names manage.
- Three syllables with front stress is a comfortable English rhythm.
- Jacqueline is the standard spelling and this will be corrected for a lifetime.
- The changed vowel is inaudible, so the spelling must be given aloud every time.
- The cluster at the front is the part people get wrong when writing it down.
