The story of Jaccob
In Genesis, Jacob sleeps at Bethel with a stone for a pillow and dreams of a ladder reaching to heaven, with angels going up and down it; English later gave the name Jacob's ladder to a ship's rope ladder, a wooden toy of tumbling blocks and a blue garden flower. Scottish legend held that the Stone of Scone, on which the kings of Scotland were crowned, was that same pillow stone; Edward I took it to Westminster in 1296, where it sat under the coronation chair for seven centuries until it was returned to Scotland in 1996. Jaccob, with its doubled c, is one of the many spellings that followed Jacob's long reign on American lists.
